In this guide we’ll dig deep into Perks.
- We’ll first just go through the key information about perks, and talk a bit about all of the perks in the game and what they do.
- We’ll talk about how the perk preference, particularly for Trade-off Perks, differ greatly depending on what type of Tower build you have.
- We’ll cover how your perk priorities will differ quite a lot if you are an active player, versus a player who is more AFK and not really monitoring much of your farming runs.
- And lastly, we’ll cover perks in relation to Milestones and Event Missions, and some other miscellaneous perk facts.
Ok, first off, let’s take a step back and just be clear on what Perks are and some of the core mechanics:
- Perks are advantages that you can earn in a run. They can be be unlocked via the lab after you have reached wave 150 on Tier 2. But while most perks are advantageous, keep in mind that some perks can be disadvantageous, and that’s why we got this video where we’ll discuss some of these considerations.
- Perks are earned starting at wave 200. After selecting 20 perks, the waves required is increased to 250, it then becomes 300 waves required after 30 perks, and it becomes 350 waves required after 40 perks have been selected.
- The base of waves required can be reduced by upgrading the "Waves Required" lab and also by selecting the "Perk Wave Requirement" standard perk.
- At first you can select from 2 perks generated at random. And later you can expand this to a total of 4 choices with the "Perk Option Quantity" lab.
A lesser known fact here is that it is also not possible for all perks to be trade-off perks unless those are the only perks remaining. (DEBUNKED)
- The "First Perk Choice" lab will allow your selection to be guaranteed to appear on the first set of perk alternatives as the top choice.
- And note that I’ll repeat this a few times throughout, but in 99.99% of game scenarios you should have the Perk Wave Requirement as your first choice. It is way better in almost all scenarios. The only main exception is in very short milestone runs where something else could be more impactful as you may not get past wave 200-300 anyways.
- When using the Auto Pick Perk, it will always select the top choice on the list. On your first selection, this will always pick your First Perk Choice.
And if you are a beginner player reading this, note that you want to Unlock Perks and get the First Perk Choice as early as you can. This, alongside unlocking Enemy Level Skips give a great boost to your early game. And, generally speaking, most would argue that it’s worth saving up to 3-days worth of coin income to unlock these things. Any longer than that and you likely instead can use your coins elsewhere in the workshop - but please note that at least that Perks are super useful to your progression and you could potentially save up even longer.
Ok, that’s some of the core perk initial information. Next, let’s talk about the three main groups of perks. The Standard Perks, the Ultimate Weapons Perks and the Trade-off Perks.
MAIN PERK TYPES
Standard Perks
The Standard perks are the grey-ish blue colored perks which have the most quantities. There are a total of 15 unique Standard Perks (and a total of 60 quantity).
The bonuses from Standard Perks can be improved with Standard Perk Bonus lab.
