Originally, I was only going to create a private J Plays’ Discord server for the individuals supporting me as YouTube Members (i.e., those with Membership Access). But as I realized that more could benefit from Discord, large parts of the server are now open to the public and we’re a great community of 300+ players. And on the Discord server, we also have 8 great guilds - but anyone who isn’t part of those guilds is also very welcome.
Importantly, this server does not seek to imitate or replicate the The Tower - Official Discord server for the game. That one is great in so many ways and has an amazing community of helpful individuals and contains more than 80,000 members. However, some of its strengths also arguably lead to some weaknesses, such as the fast-paced communication, the challenge to organise information neatly, the bureaucracy and limitations that come with the game developers being the owner of the server, and so on.
As a result, I simply aspire for my Discord server to be a nice supplement where:
- Guilds can have their private Discord channels
- Game resources are neatly organised
- Additional fun features and integrations
- Where giveaways can be hosted
- And where we are simply flexible to take the server in any direction the community within it wants to take it.
