If you know all the tournament basics, jump to Considerations for Improved Performance
Tournaments are competitions in the game that you can participate in bi-weekly: held every Wednesday and Saturday at 0:00 am UTC.
The tournament consists of 30 players within your respective league and the goal is to get the highest run in terms of waves. The 6 leagues are, in order of progression: Copper Tournament, Silver Tournament, Gold Tournament, Platinum Tournament, Champion Tournament and Legend Tournament. Your ranking in a tournament earns you Gems and Stones (plus Keys in Legend Tournament league if you are ranked 15 or above). Tournaments serve as the primary way to obtain stones, which are essential for acquiring and upgrading Ultimate Weapons.

A key thing to note about joining a tournament is that you have a 24-hour window to start the tournament. So you may want to consider the best timeslot that suits you. You can also use tools such as Live Placement Analysis (Tournaments) to learn more about what timeslot may be the best overall (though this can change often). A common strategy for some is to join the very last minute, but this can also be a risky strategy, where you can risk ending up not being able to compete. And, importantly, you may consider occasionally joining earlier, so that you can do more than 1 tournament, in case of any mistake, or to compare two or more different strategies to see what works best for you.

Depending on the tournament tier you are running, the number of battle conditions will vary.
A Battle Condition modifies battles with special rules to increase the difficulty, and which gradually increases in a tournament run up to a maximum strength at wave 1,000.
Some tournaments will also have some constant battle conditions that are not random (see the attached image).
You may also refer to this overview Infographic: Static Tournament Battle Conditions per Tier.
The tournament rewards differ between the tournament tiers.
But long story short, you want to try to get as high tournament tier and rank as possible for more rewards.

This next section is titled “considerations” because the simple reality is that everyone’s tower is different, and what may work for some, may not work for others - and there’s hardly ever any absolute “best” for anything in the game. So, with that in mind, we can then proceed.
